Euro Cup 2012 Result – Quarter Final 2: Germany 4 – 1 Greece

So we kick off here with Germany dominant from the very beginning with the Germans having a goal disallowed for offside. The Germans here with far more pace and skill about then in comparison to the Greeks. The pitch casing a few issues here for the germans, its not in great condition and the ball is bobbing around a bit. The Germans have had three good chances in the opening 10 minutes here.

The players are sliding around a bit here as some of them slip around on this less than adequate pitch. The greeks are looking to break quickly in this game but have only managed to do so twice in the opening 20 minutes. The Germans dominating possession and chances as you might expect.

22 minutes in and the Germans are knocking the ball around so well and the chance breaks for Oezil who really should have scored their after the goal was gapping and Oezil hits the keeper. Schurrle and Rues both have really really good chances there and some great play.

The greeks having slightly more possession now and their first shot of the game which is easily saved by Neuer, the germans reply instantly with by pounding the Greek defence with attack after attack. It really does look like and a matter of when not if the Germans will score.

As I say that Germany score a fantastic goal with Lahm striking one from outside the area. A curling effort into the top right hand corner, the Germans lead 1 – 0. The greeks kick off and attack but it comes to nothing and then Germany go back to dominating the possession. The half time whistle goes with the Germans having had a number of chances hitting the side-netting in the process. This Euro Cup half time result is Germany 1 – 0 Greece.

The Greeks come out in the second half an in the first 3 minutes have alreay hade more chances than the whole of the first half. The germans have a few chances but the Greeks are pressing much better now and 10 minutes into the second half the Greeks score! its 1 – 1, samaras taps in from a great cross by saltenguidis (apologies for the spelling).

The Germans are back out attacking again though and the Greeks are all back behind the ball again and 6 minutes later Boeteng crosses the ball and Khadeira thumbs a volley into the top of the net. He really gave that everything and the Germans are back in the lead, they definitely deserve to be ahead. The Greeks attack straight from the kick off and its a decent chance. The greeks are not to be under estimated here either.

The germans continue to press and the Greeks give away a soft free kick.. a good delivery from Oezil and the defence is shocking.. Klose head in from the free-kick Germany 3 – 1 Greece. 2 minutes later an Marco Rues powers one in to the top right hand corner another good goal and the Greeks are crumbling now and the ole’s are coming from the stands. Germany 4 – 1 Greece.

Germany seem not content either because Klose and Rues are being replaced by Mario Goetze and Mario Gomez! Oezil deserves a goal here to and 80 minutes in he almost finds it. The Greeks have gone quite now and the Greek fans are silent in the crowd, the greeks are having some possession but nothing is coming of it.

The game is coming to a close here now, greece are demoralised here and germany are in control, The germans are cruising to victory now. The greeks have a penalty here in the last minute of the game.. Saltenguidis to take and he scores cooly.. Germany 4 – 2 Greece and that really does look like it will be it. A note on that penalty it was very harsh I think even the ref was feeling sorry for the Greek’s here.. Its given for a handball in the area on Boeteng but he was facing the other way and it didn’t look intentional.. The game ends 4 – 2 and it was a good game.
