The opening minutes in this game have been dominates by the Netherlands as they try and rectify the poor showing that they have achieved so far. There are a few decent attacks put together by the Netherlands and in less that 15 minutes they had already taken the lead.
Rafael Vand Der Vaart scores a fantastic goal from the edge of the area to put the Netherlands ahead in this game, a really fantastic finish. The Dutch goal has spurred the Portuguese into life their throwing players forward over the next 10 minutes but the Netherlands goal hasn’t been tested too bad. Just after that theres a good save by Steklenberg to deny Ronaldo, the Netherlands enjoy more of the possession after that chance for the next 5 minutes.
Just under half an hour gone here and Cristiano Ronaldo runs through the Dutch defence and is found expertly to put the ball past the Netherlands keeper. The goal seems to have put a bit more life into both teams and its a tight contested fixture. Portugal break forward again with Ronaldo looking on form in this game! A long range effort, really well struck from Ronaldo which makes the Dutch keeper parry the ball away.
Two minutes later Ronaldo powerfully heads wide from a corner, he looks really up for this game today. 10 minutes left of the half here and Portugal really are piling on the pressure with a free-kick in a dangerous position, the Dutch need to be careful here.
Yet another chance for Cristiano Ronaldo fires another shot just wide, he really puts so much power into his shots the keeper won’t stand much of a chance If he gets one of them on Target. It finishes for half time 1 – 1.
The second half kicks off with the Netherlands having most of the possession in the opening minutes but failing to really do much with the possession. Portugal managing to steal the ball every now and then breaking dangerously.
Netherlands looking more dangerous now with their first corner of the second half, it comes to nothing though and theirs some handbags on the pitch here as the Portuguese aren’t happy with one of the challenges made from the Vlaar, who is they yellow carded.
Another opportunity goes begging with sniejder heading just over the bar from a free-kick taken from around 45 yards. Netherlands having the better of possession around the hour mark with portugal conceding a number of free-kicks just outside their own penalty box. Still all to play for in this game.
Portugal have a chance here and the ball is put into the back of the net by Helder Postiga who is flagged for offside and it was a good decision. This game really is wide open with the next action is a Netherlands corner which eventually comes to nothing, this is a really entertaining game.
An absolutely golden chance for Portugal with Ronaldo running down the left and feeding his clubmate Fabio Coentroa bending into the left hand side of the goal which is expertly saved by the Netherlands goalkeeper Steklenburg. Really good football all round their. Pepe has got Van Persie booked in this game by rolling around on the floor after the minimalist of contact while they were both jumping for the ball. Really dont like that guy! anyone else think hes a waste of space?
AN ABSOLUTE SITTER! Ronaldo crosses a ball for Nani who has the whole of the goal to aim at and he hits the Dutch keepers who was scrambling across his goal. A really good save but the Portuguese should be in the lead! And now they are! Nani runs forward, passes to Ronaldo who makes no mistake and he puts the Portuguese ahead!
Holland are on the ropes here as they push bodies forward making themselves venerable at the back. but with 8 minutes left Van Der Vaart smashes it against the post another really good effort by Van Der Vaart who’s been the best dutchman on the field tonight. Portugal are hitting the Dutch on the break and Nani attempts to chip the keeper but the ball hist the top netting on the goal a decent chance their. A minute later and Nani again striker the ball from 30 yards.
The games closing moment involve a few chances from the Netherlands and the Portuguese go more defensive by replacing Nani with Rolando the Centre-Back. Ronaldo smashing one against the post from the edge of the area, so close to getting his hattrick in stoppage time here. The game finishes here with Portugal winning and going through in second of group B. A good entertaining game here.
