Euro Cup 2012 Results – Czech Republic Vs Portugal Quarter-Final Match Result: Czech Republic 0 – 0 Portugal

We kick off here in warsaw with arguably the Czech’s best player Rosicky a major doubt but he starts on the bench. Nothing happens of note in the first 8 minutes of the game, Portugal start to have more joy attacking compared to the Czechs. Portugal have the first corner 10 minutes into the game but we have yet to see anything from Ronaldo who played a key part in them reaching the Euro cup quarter finals.

Joao Moutinho has the first real attempt on goal of the game with a long range effort well held by the Cech, the Czech Republic and Chelsea goalkeeper. 16 minutes in now and the Czechs are pushing forward followed by a succession of corners.

Just a minute later and the Czech midfielder provides a sumptuous cross for Baros who is sprinting into the box, just too far ahead of Baros there. A really good chance and the Czechs have a corner.

This time its the Portuguese with the attacking chances with a really good opportunity for Ronaldo to take the ball forward and produces a really good save from Cech but the whistle has gone for a free-kick anyway. Portugal still keeping up the pressure as we near the half an hour mark.

Ronaldo tries the audacious over head kick, he looked offside at first glance but he wasn’t a nice effort but just wide. A minute later and Ronaldo has a free kick from a reasonable distance, he strikes it low hard and wide, never looked threatening. Its not been a great game so far with few real chances, 8 minutes left to play of this fist half.

Helder Postiga is being stretchered off here, he made a sprint for the ball and instantly pulled up, looks like his hamstring has gone, that might be his tournament over.

2 minutes left of normal time here and Portugal are appealing for a penalty, not given and deservedly so, nani slips and then asks for a penalty, Is that cheating? The Portuguese are dominating again here trying to thread some intricate balls between the Czech defence. Ronaldo takes the ball down in the box, turns the defender and shoots hitting the post. Beautiful technique, you can tell hes the best player on the pitch.. he was unlucky not to have put his country in the lead there.. The half time whistle blows. Half Time Euro 2012 result 0 – 0.

The second half kicks off and the portuguese are the fastest out of the blocks with Almeda heading over the bar within seconds of kick-off. Portugal dominating as Ronaldo has a succession of free-kicks the second of which hits the post from 30 yards out.

Ronaldo again with a darting run forward, a really difficult ball to deal with but he still gets a shot away even while travelling at full sprint speed. The portuguese really are dominating possession and chances. Ronaldo looks in the mood to do something here tonight as portugal have yet another corner.

Nani has a shot this time that comes from a really good move by portugal. Well saved by Cech in goal but another chance for the Portuguese here. Hugo Almeida scores a diving heder but he’s called offside and rightly so! still 0 – 0.

The Czechs first real chance and an excellent solo run from pilak down the left beating no less than 4 portugal defenders but his cross only finds a Portuguese player. Their best chance of the game I reckon.

The portuguese are back on top as Moutinho fires a shot that is tipped over by cech a fine save by the keeper. The portuguese are ALL OVER this Czech team you really can see any other winner. portugal now being asked defend but only for a brief moment before Portugal attack again.

Great passing play by .. you guessed it .. Portugal, in the end Merieles slips the ball into nani of which only a last ditch challenge manages to block nani’s shot to go for a corner.. the corner comes to nothing.. They must really be rueing their chances here some of them are starting to get a little frustrated 15 minutes left here.

With 10 minutes remaining and Portugal finally do it.. a good run from Moutinho who then whips a ball in a for a fine Ronaldo header, headed down into the ground, Brilliant goal and you can see how much it means to him. You can say it hasn’t been coming.

Into stoppage time now and Petr Cech has gone up for a free kick, but thats it.. its all over Ronaldo celebrates.. Portugal Celebrate and Portugal win their Euro Cup 2012 Quarter-Final.
